The business and coffee industry (world and national markets) show a performance that is not yet synergistic in a unified, efficient and equitable industrial system (welfare of the parties). The market between actors tends to be asymmetrical and oligopsony with the opportunity for unfair trade, the processor industry relatively has market power which is possible to pressure traders and ultimately pressure farmers.
The sustainability of industrial and business systems needs to be encouraged so that competitiveness will increase by enhancing technology and innovation, providing good policy support and developing human resources, so that a fair industrial / coffee business ecosystem will realize.
Therefore, the Indonesian Coffee Centre was formed to build and develop the Indonesian coffee connectivity platform. The research that will be developed is advanced research and is collaborative research between academics, industry, business, government, and society. Meanwhile, the educational program offered aims to improve Coffee HR based on competency expertise in the field of coffee needed today and in the future, such as coffee cultivation techniques, post-harvest processing, roasting, and various kinds of brewing techniques.

Business in the coffee industry system is asymmetrical, where every actor in the supply chain has not shown an efficient and equitable industrial system integration, prices are volatile at the farm level because the actors have a profit function with their respective strategies. This condition will lead to weakening competitiveness and threatening the continuation (industrial system) of Coffee in Indonesia.
